Wanda Fowler gets reassignment

White Oak Elementary School Principal Wanda Fowler will replace Patti Dill as Carteret County Public School System’s Academically and/or Intellectually Gifted Programs coordinator.

The change is effective upon Dill’s retirement, July 1.

County Public School System Superintendent Brad Sneeden said Fowler would handle the duties of Dill along with other duties. Fowler’s title will be Director of Leadership Development and Academically and/or Intellectually Gifted Programs.

The principal position at White Oak Elementary will be advertised. Fowler will continue her duties as principal until July 1.

“I am excited about this new opportunity to make a broader contribution to the Carteret County Public School System, and yet I know I will miss the students, faculty, staff and parents that make up the White Oak Elementary School community,” Fowler said. “We have a wonderful professional learning community here at White Oak, and I know that will continue because of the strong work ethic and commitment demonstrated here every day.

“It has always been my professional goal to blend my public administration degree and my school administration degree, and this new position will allow me that opportunity,” she added. “It will also give me the opportunity to work with and to assist the school system’s instructional leaders across the county.”

 Fowler has served as the principal of White Oak Elementary School for eight years.

She first joined the Carteret County Public School System as an assistant principal at Newport Elementary. Prior to that appointment, she served as an administrator in Highlands .

Fowler’s new job will involve working with principals and assistant principals in the areas of leadership and professional development, according to the superintendent.

“I am very pleased Mrs. Fowler will be joining the Curriculum and Instruction team we have in place,” he said. “Her expertise and her educational experiences will enhance the services we can provide to our teachers and administrators. I believe leadership and professional development are vital to our school system’s instructional program and, ultimately, to student success. Mrs. Fowler will focus on providing the training needed by our instructional leaders and that will have a positive impact on the education of our students.

“Mrs. Fowler will also direct the school system’s AIG programs and build on the outstanding program Mrs. Dill has built.”

Fowler holds an undergraduate degree in education and master’s degrees in public affairs and school administration from Western Carolina University . She attended Wake Forest University ’s Institute for Gifted Studies.

“We are now looking forward to having Mrs. Fowler join the curriculum and instruction team, and tapping into her energy and expertise in the areas of leadership development and AIG,” Assistant Superintendent Jeanne Huntley said. “As a member of the curriculum and instruction team, Mrs. Fowler will help us address curriculum and instruction issues throughout the school system and will work with teachers and administrators to continue to build a strong student-focused comprehensive instructional program.”
